July 22, 2013 by Matt Fraser

LYNN – Behind a balanced team effort, including 11 runs, great pitching and a sparkling clean defense, the Wyoma Indians cruised past the Pine Hill Reds Saturday in City Series action, 11-1, in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.View Photo GalleryWyoma will face West Lynn, which defeated Lynn Shore, 3-0, Saturday and East Lynn, 13-3 Sunday (in five innings). The game will be Tuesday (5:45) at Pine Hill’s Chris Spagnoli Field at Gallagher Park, where the entire City Series is being played.Wyoma grabbed a run in the first off of Reds starter Dan Lilja when David Barnard (3-4, three runs, three RBI) hammered a homer over the right field fence.Barnard was also a stud on the mound, fanning the side in the first two innings. He reached the maximum pitch count with two outs in the fourth, finishing with eight strikeouts and three walks while allowing six hits.”David was in a zone his entire outing and really pitched a great game,” said Wyoma manager Jack Carroll following the win. “He threw a lot of strikes and left plenty of batters on base and he also had a great day hitting as well.”Wyoma effectively put things away in a seven-run third, with all the damage coming with two outs. After Brett Bucklin (double) and Barnard reached to open the frame, Pine Hill turned a double play with right fielder Christian Simpson fielding a Kyle Finnigan fly out, before firing to first for the second out. After that, back to back singles from Matt Godbout and Reece Archer produced a run and Lucas Fritz was hit by a pitch. Brandon Small followed with a single to load the bases.Back at the top of the order, Wyoma got RBI singles from Spencer Divirgilio, Bucklin and Barnad. Pine Hill’s Mike Leavitt got Brandon Lannon, the 12th batter of the inning, to fly to right to end things.”More than anything today I was happy with our substitutes’ contributions and the bottom of the order,” said Carroll. “Archer, Small, and Fritz all came up big today off of the bench and got themselves on base.”Pine Hill’s lone run came in the following inning when Dan Gisonno’s double, Miguel Segura’s walk and Lilja base hit loaded the bases. With his pitch-count rapidly nearing, Barnard walked. A walk produced the run.Barnard and DiVirgilio knocked in runs in the fifth to end the game.West Lynn 3, Lynn ShoreLou Videl pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out 10. Aiden Leydon and William Hunter finished up, with Leydon fanning two and Hunter whiffing the side in the sixth. With the score 1-0 in the fifth, Hunter tripled, and Leydon and Videl hit back-to-back doubles.SUNDAYWest Lynn 13, East Lynn 3It was 3-1 East Lynn going into the sixth before West Lynn scored 12 runs. The big hit was Videl’s grand slam, which occurred after hits by Leydon, Videl, Maurice Sequierea and Hunter, helped along by two walks and three hit batsmen, produced runs. The final two came on Miguel Valera’s two-run homer.Leydon went the distance, striking out 11.Tonight, it’ll be Pine Hill against Lynn Shore (5:45) with the loser being eliminated.
