An evening of hills at Lynn Woods

Rich Tenorio

July 25, 2013 by Rich Tenorio

For runners at the latest installment of the Lynn Woods summer cross country races on Wednesday, it was a night of going up and down hills … sometimes more than once. The hills of Steel Tower and Stone Tower both got visits from runners on a day that felt just a bit less stifling, weather-wise, than last week and its heat wave.In the short race, a 2.49-mile course up Steel Tower Hill via the Goat Path, Caleb Evanter of Marblehead won in 15:27, followed by Rick Provost of Beverly (16:06) and Aaron Gautreau of North Reading (17:39). Sarah Bitterman of Marblehead was the top female finisher (17:58, 6th place). In the long race, the Triple Towers course, Chris Smith of Woburn won in 32:56, followed by two finishers one second apart: Michael Smith of Beverly (34:07) and Mike Flaherty of Lynn (34:08). The top female finishers, Katie Cooper of Marblehead (37:06) and Katia Bertoldi of Somerville (37:15), finished 11th and 12th overall, respectively. The top finishers in the Kids Race (1.59 miles) were Luke Chase, Reading, 10:54; Matthew Brown, Nahant, 12:46; and Meghan Carney of Peabody, 13:16. The top Lynn finisher was Katherine Clancy, fourth place, 13:36.All six Peewee Quarter Mile finishers came from Lynn: winner Juan Imul (0:55), Francisco Quinillos (1:00), Albert Imul (1:20), Fernando Quinillos (1:25), Ben Bochnak (1:40) and Will Bochnak (1:56).
