The Lynn 16U Babe Ruth softball team got a complete-game, seven-strikeout performance from Ivy Martin Thursday morning to defeat Southern New Hampshire, 4-2, in the first game of pool play in the regional tournament in Pittsfield.?I was very happy (with the win),” said manager Steve Martin, who is also Ivy?s father. “We played solid defense all the way through.”There were offensive stars aplenty, beginning with Shanna Zeramby, who had two hits; and Sam Holey, Gabby Kenniston, Keri Bryson and Brianna Maynard, who had one apiece.Defensively, Holey, Maynard and Michaela Hamill stood out, Martin said.Lynn jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of two New Hampshire errors. Both Bryson and Maynard had an RBI.Lynn got its third run in the second inning. Zeramby singled and went to second on an error. After Holey moved her over to third on an infield out, Zeramby scored on a passed ball.By the seventh, though, it was 3-2. But Zeramby started off with a single and made it all the way to third on an error. She also scored on an errant throw.?We didn?t hit the ball a ton,” Martin said. “But that was a good team. It was a tight game, and to come out on top was nice.”Lynn plays two games today as the tournament continues through the weekend. At 1:30, it?ll be Lynn vs. Norwalk, Conn.; and at 8, the Lynners play the Berkshire Force.
