Revere resident Eve Lescovitz, who is 11 years old, is already displaying her talent in golf.Lescovitz advanced to the regional round of the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship, which will take place on Aug. 12 at Pine Hills in Plymouth. The winner will go to Augusta, Ga., the same month of the Masters next year.Lescovitz reached the regionals by placing second in the 12-year-old division of the sectional qualifier at Granite Lakes in Quincy on July 10.For the sectionals, Lescovitz made the trip with her father, Rich, a member of Gannon Golf Course, in the family Toyota Highlander. They arrived 90 minutes ahead of schedule for her 2:30 p.m. start time.Rich and Eve Lescovitz both recalled the advice they received from an assistant pro at Augusta that day.?We talked to him,” Eve Lescovitz said. “He said it didn?t matter how far you hit (the ball), it had to be straight and in the grid.”Participants in the inaugural competition, sponsored by First Tee, included both boys and girls and encompassed all age divisions. They each had to make three drives (which had to land in a grid), three chips and three putts.?Driving, at first, when you hit it, you focus on getting it in the grid,” Eve Lescovitz said. “There?s no need to pound it out there. Keep it right straight. For chipping, on the green, just focus on where it?s going to go and how fast. Don?t go too fast.”Putting, she said, is “the same thing, on the green.”She did admit to some nerves, but said, “I just started to pray. It all goes away.”Now it?s on to the regional finals, where one winner will be crowned in each division, and one alternate selected.?We?re excited for August 12, I?ll tell you that,” Rich Lescovitz said.He added, “She?s a little fella, my daughter. She?s small for her age. Driving distance is somewhat of an issue. Accuracy is a little bit better than distance. She can hit it straight.”In the fall, she will attend the Susan B. Anthony School in Revere. Her father said she has “never gotten anything less than an A in her career,” and called her “a stellar student.”She also plays softball, including on tournament teams, and her father said she will probably play basketball as well.Golf runs deep in the Lescovitz family. Rich Lescovitz said that his grandfather, Al Lescovitz, joined Gannon in the mid-to-late 1940s.?Competition and athletics are important,” he said. “They were to me when I was growing up.”
