LYNN – Police say a Lynn man was drunk when he allegedly fired three shots from a handgun on Hampden Place Friday morning.Denver Romero Jr., 28, of 242 Essex St., # 1, Lynn, was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, unlawful/improper storage of a firearm, defacing a firearm serial number, carrying a loaded firearm and open container violation.Lynn District Court Judge Patricia Dowling ordered Romero held on $25,000 cash bail at his arraignment on Friday.Police responded to a home on Hampden Place for a report of gunshots at around 8:40 a.m. Friday, according to a Lynn Police report.Responding officers noticed a red Hyundai parked in front of the home and running that had a handgun sitting on the front passenger seat and shell casing in the middle cup holder area, said the report.Police also found a half-empty bottle of liquor in the middle console, said the report.According to the report, police questioned Romero and another man who were standing in the area.Police spoke to Romero, and the report states he was clearly drunk and having trouble standing. The man who was with Romero told police he came out of his house when he heard “three pops” and said he saw Romero in the driver seat of the Hyundai, said the report. He told police Romero was the one shooting the gun, said the report. The report states police knocked on the door of the home and there was no answer. Fearing for the well-being of the people inside, officers called the Lynn Fire Department to gain entry. Inside the report states police found four people who were hiding, said the report. The report states they told police they were “hiding inside as they thought it was the person who was firing the gun outside the house.” The report states two of the people knew Romero and stated they were “100 percent positive that he was the subject who was shooting the gun.”Officers also found a bullet hole on the outside of the home.Police arrested Romero and recovered a Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun.Romero is due back in court on Aug. 29.
