Lynn man charged with home invasion, assault to murder

LYNN – A Lynn man was ordered held without bail Friday following a violent home invasion in which police say he beat and strangled a woman.Hector Batres, 32, of 32 Alive Ave. #1, Lynn, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with two counts of home invasion, assault to murder, witness intimidation, larceny from a building and malicious destruction of property.Lynn District Court Judge Patricia Dowling ordered Batres held without bail at his arraignment on Friday and he is due back in court for a dangerousness hearing on Aug. 1.Police records state that police responded to a home on Norcross Terrace Thursday night for a report of an assault. Police were met by the victim and her son, and the report states that “right away I saw (the victim) had been assaulted.”?She had raccoon eyes, which is consistent with being punched in the nose and face,” Lynn Police officer Jeffrey Trahant wrote in his report. “She had a fresh laceration above her right eye. There was also redness around her neck, which is consistent with being strangled.”The victim told police that she was in her home with her son when there was a knock on the door. The victim said she cracked the door to see who it was when the man pushed it open and entered the home, said the report.The victim told police she recognized the man, later identified as Batres, as a former neighbor and he had a knife in his hand, said the report.The report states Batres struck her son in the head and pushed him aside before yelling, “Where is he? Where is he?”After the victim told him she didn?t know what he was talking about, the report states Batres yelled he was going to kill and he began punching her in the face.The report states Batres stopped punching her, and then wrapped his hands around her neck and began to strangle her. The victim told police she almost lost consciousness from being strangled, said the report.?(The victim) was defenseless at this point,” wrote Trahant. “After Batres stopped strangling her, he took her cell phone. Batres walked over to the land line phone and broke the phone. He told (the victim) that she would not call the cops. He left the apartment at this time.”Emergency Medical Services treated the victim, who was taken to the hospital by a neighbor.The victim told police she had helped Batres move to 32 Alive Ave. last year, said the report, and officers responded to this address to arrest him.A man who answered the door there told police Batres did live there but was not home, said the report. Police searched Batres? room and found a W-2 form and several T-shirts from a local landscaping company.Police spoke with managers of the landscaping company at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, who helped police locate Batres, said the report.The report states Batres was arrested without incident.
