LYNN – A judge ordered a city man held without bail after a man told police the defendant was high, made a racist remark, then returned after being admonished and attacked one man with a bat and stabbed another.Shawn G. Dennis, 46, of 24 Rockaway Court, was arrested on a warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a bat; and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a knife; at 3:07 p.m. Sunday.He was arraigned Monday in Lynn District Court, according to court documents.Police responded to the area of 123 Jefferson St. on report of a fight at 12:30 a.m. Saturday and found a white man lying on the sidewalk and holding the back of his head, according to a report by Lynn Police Officer Paul Wonoski.That alleged victim (whom police identified as white) told police Dennis attacked him and hit him repeatedly with a bat-like weapon and also stabbed his friend (whom police identified as black), according to the report. The black alleged victim told police Dennis had stabbed him with a 3-4-inch black “Rambo-style” knife, and showed police a two-inch cut below his right knee, according to police.The white alleged victim told police he and his friend were speaking with neighbors when Dennis approached and they had a brief conversation.The white alleged victim told police Dennis appeared to be “all pilled out on Klonopins” and Dennis made a disparaging remark about “not understanding black people (referring to (the black alleged victim),” according to the police report.The white alleged victim told Dennis that the black alleged victim “spoke fine,” police reported.Dennis left, then returned to attack the white alleged victim, hitting him two to three times with a small bat, that victim told police according to the report.The black alleged victim told police he jumped on Dennis’ back to stop the attack, but Dennis pulled out a knife and began swinging it back and forth.The two alleged victims reported they escaped and Dennis fled. The black alleged victim said he didn’t notice until this time that he had been stabbed, and both alleged victims declined medical attention, police said.Police reported nobody answered the door at either Dennis’ address or an address on Jefferson Street where the alleged victims said Dennis bought drugs. Officers reported arresting Dennis after a brief chase when they saw him the next day.A prosecutor requested Dennis be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, according to court documents.Judge James LaMothe granted the request and Dennis is scheduled to return for the hearing on Thursday, according to court documents.Dennis’ attorney could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.
