PEABODY – A man who police said jumped into a woman’s car and robbed her while she was at a Bank of America ATM was ordered held without bail Tuesday.Gerald Russo, 33, of 116 Foster St. #3, surrendered to authorities at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for unarmed robbery; and daytime breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, according to a press release from Peabody Police.Police responded at approximately 11:20 a.m. Monday to the Bank of America on Andover Street on the report of an unarmed robbery. A 35-year-old woman (initially reported by police as 67-years old) told officers she was at the drive-thru ATM when a man entered her vehicle and demanded money. The man fled on foot with approximately $200. Nobody was injured in the incident.Russo was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Peabody District Court on charges of daytime breaking and entering of a motor vehicle to commit a felony; uttering a false note; and unarmed robbery; according to Essex District Attorney spokesperson Steve O’Connell. O’Connell said Russo allegedly tried to cash a check that had already been processed prior to allegedly committing the other alleged crimes.Russo pleaded not guilty.Assistant District Attorney Janelle Amadon requested Russo be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.Judge Matthew Nestor granted the request, ordering Russo held until an Aug. 20 hearing, according to O’Connell.A defense attorney appointed to represent Nierman at the bail hearing could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.
