LYNN – There were no winners or losers at the 2013 Lynn Invitational All-Star Game, literally and figuratively, as the 10-inning showcase ended in a 6-6 tie. The game featured a little bit of everything, from great pitching and hitting to spectacular defensive plays. The Navy/Red squad looked to be in control early on, mounting a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning before a furious rally from the Royal/Green team knotted things in the sixth. After Rafael Tylus (Danvers) pitched a quick and clean top of the first, the Navy/Red bats got on the board in their first trip to the plate. Ryan January (Salisbury Prep/Swampscott) walked with one out before eventually scoring on an error at second base. The strong pitching for the hosts kept up through the next three innings as C.J. Dandeneau (LaSalle, RI), Conner Sahlin (Campbell, NH), and Bryce Knight (Souhegen, NH) combined to strand three runners while striking out three. The offensive highlight of the night came in the bottom of the fourth when Luke Glancy (Governor?s Academy) launched a three-run homer to right field to push the Navy/Red lead to four. The Royal/Green bats finally awakened in the fifth through seventh innings as they scored twice in each frame.Scott Manea would single to start the fifth before coming home on an RBI single by Cam O?Neill (BB&N/St. Mary?s). Gino Larossa (Braintree) would score on a passed ball after walking earlier in the inning.Dante Ricciardi (Worcester Academy) reached on an error to start the sixth before scoring on a groundout by Luke Hajdukiewicz (Brooks). Harrison Roberson (Belmont Hill) would score on a passed ball shortly after to tie the score. The visitors grabbed a 6-5 lead in the seventh after both Joe Klingensmith (Masconomet) and Jack Cox (Andover) came across on an RBI single by Matt Cook (Monomoy Regional) and a sacrifice fly from Cameron Walsh (Duxbury).January scored his second run of the game in the bottom of the sixth after walking to begin the inning, then scoring on an RBI single by St. John?s Prep?s Keith Leavitt. Navy/Red scored the tying (and final) run in the eighth after Virginia Tech-bound Joe Freiday (Bridgewater-Raynham) smacked a leadoff triple before coming across on a ground ball error at shortstop.January nearly had a walk-off single in the tenth but his rip to first base hit base-runner John Lynch (Bishop Feehan). If the ball had gotten through, Bishop Fenwick?s Mike Campatelli might have scored from second, where he stood following a leadoff double to left field. Several other locals participated in the game, including Trevor Massey (Tilton/Swampscott), Sawyer Billings, Rosario Missiti, Max Burt (St. John?s Prep), Steven Passatempo (Malden Catholic), Kyle O?Connor (Lynn English), and Mike Petrosino (Peabody).
