Saugus and State Police searched the woods off the Walnut Street reservoir after a brief foot pursuit Monday morning, according to Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti.
Giorgetti said there is no danger to residents in the area.
?There?s no particular threat to the residents at this time,” he said.Giorgetti said police tried pulling over a suspected stolen car when the occupant fled into the woods.?The officers spotted the unit and determined it was a stolen motor vehicle which they attempted to stop for violations,” said Giorgetti. “The occupant of the motor vehicle fled from that vehicle up into the Lynn Woods off of Walnut Street.”
About eight State and Saugus police cruisers were on the scene at the Saugus end of the Reservoir, with another eight police cruisers on the Lynn side.Police searched for about two hours late Monday morning and into the early afternoon with Saugus and State K9 units.
?We?re looking for one male suspect,” said Giorgetti, at around 12 p.m. “They were tracking him for a while, but as of now we weren?t able to locate him.”
Traffic was backed up on both side of Walnut Street and to make matters worse, police had to respond to a woman stopped in traffic at the scene for a medical issue.
A Saugus Police officer and a State Trooper could be seen trying to speak to the woman, who did not appear to be responsive. A Cataldo ambulance arrived and took the woman away on a stretcher and her car was towed.
