LYNN – A 30-year old Lynn man, shot during a struggle with police Thursday, has died.A statement from the Essex District Attorney’s Office identified the man as Denis Reynoso, 30, of 46 Newcastle St., in the King’s Lynne apartment complex.”The Essex District Attorney’s Office will conduct an investigation of the use of fatal force as is protocol,” according to the statement from Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday. “Findings of that investigation will be released to the public upon its completion.”In a news conference Thursday afternoon, Lynn Police Chief Kevin Coppinger said a preliminary investigation showed the suspect later identified as Reynoso was shot late Thursday morning after police responded the 46 Newcastle St. apartment shortly before 11:30 a.m. on a report of disorderly conduct.Coppinger said a struggle ensued in which the suspect is alleged to have seized control of an officer’s weapon. An officer discharged his weapon, hitting the suspect in his midsection.
The two officers, plus a third officer who had responded to the scene, were treated at Union Hospital for minor injuries and released. They will be placed on paid leave as a procedural matter while the investigation continues, Coppinger said. While the area is home to Lynn Classical High School and Breed Middle School, neither was believed to have been affected.
