Boys Soccer: Defense helps Swampscott stop Gloucester

Team defense was the name of the game Tuesday as the Swampscott boys soccer team dominated Gloucester, 3-1, at Upper Jackson Park.Roman Ganchin scored nine minutes in, assisted by Max Carbone, and Dan Woolhiser put home an unassisted goal 39 minutes in to make it 2-0, Big Blue.After Gloucester scored to make it 2-1, Woolhiser assisted on Josh Price?s goal to give the Big Blue some insurance.Coach Eric Robinson credited center/back Neil Lahrizi with having an outstanding game.?He?s our rock in the back, and he was all over the place,” Robinson said.Swampscott is 1-0-1.Rockport 2, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (1-2-1) got off to a strong start, but found themselves down 1-0 when Rockport scored 15 minutes into the first half. The deficit grew to 2-0 on a Rockport goal off a penalty kick midway through the second half.Revere 2, Classical 1At Revere, the Rams (2-3) gave up both goals in the first half and although they got one back before halftime courtesy of Abitalib Girdia, Revere slammed the door shut with a strong defensive effort in the second half. Simon Kazimierczyk had a nice defensive game in the loss.Beverly 4, Salem 1At McGrath Park in Salem, the Witches (0-1-2) spoiled Beverly?s shutout bid when Nathan Russell scored midway through the second half to make the score 3-1.George Hillios scored twice for Beverly. Graham Doherty and Elias Cadena scored the others for the Panthers. Keeper Justin Caravalle played well for the 2-1 Panthers.N. Reading 4, Saugus 1At Saugus, it was 0-0 until five minutes before the half ended when the Hornets got two quick goals.Saugus tried to mount a comeback when Guilherme Barbosa scored off a corner kick, with the assist going to Aleksa Samardzic.The Sachems are 1-3.Medford 1, Marblehead 0The Mustangs scored the game?s only goal about 10 minutes into the second period. Coach Scott Laramie said senior captain Cole Guyre and sophomore Chris Colcord played well.Danvers 8, Winthrop 1At Danvers, the Falcons rolled at home. Caio Silva and Jackson McPherson both scored twice, with Silva adding an assist.Danvers (2-0-1) split keeper duties between Cam Burnstein in the first half (one goal allowed on a penalty kick; four saves) and Connor Rollins (clean sheet, four saves).
