Girls Soccer: Pioneers dominate in victory over Rockport

It was a happy bus ride back to Lynnfield for the Pioneers? girls soccer team as it didn?t just defeat Rockport, it dominated.The score was 4-0, and neither Lynnfield goalie faced a shot. Jackie Whelan scored twice, one of them 1:47 into the game and again in the 46th minute on a dandy of a shot that buzzed past the Rockport goalie.Lynnfield scored its other goals at 31 and 37 minutes, respectively, in the first half, the first by Paige MacEachern with assists from Amanda Sieger and Jess Duhaime; and the second on an Emily Scollard free kick.Hannah Travers played the first three quarters of the game in net and Paige Ciavarro finished up.Peabody 7, English 0At Peabody, the Tanners (2-1-0, 2-0 Northeastern Conference) put this one away early with four first-half goals, from Madison Doherty (2 goals, assist); Erika Nelson (goal); Mia Lomasney (goal, assist); Amy Drover (goal); Katrina Silva (goal) and Brianna Gaynor (assist). On the defensive end, Alex Lomasney, Aly Demeo and Katherine Scacchi did a good job preserving the shutout.English is 3-3.N. Reading 3, Saugus 0At North Reading, the Sachems (0-3-1) held the Hornets scoreless until just before the end of the half before North Reading finally got a goal.Cathryn White at central defender played well, coach Chris Coviello said.Chelsea 2, Tech 0At Manning Field, it was 0-0 through the first half before Chelsea took control in the final 40 minutes.?The girls played tremendous,” said Tech coach Jeremy McKeen. “It was 1-0 until there were about seven minutes left.”McKeen credited keeper Coral Gonzalez, sweeper Wendy Guevarra, Meghan LeBlanc and Vicki Mendoza with playing well.Danvers 5, Winthrop 0At Winthrop, freshman Nicole White had two goals and an assist for the Falcons. Keeper Leah Ciampa had eight saves for the 1-2 Falcons.Swampscott 4, Gloucester 0At Gloucester, the scoring by Swampscott was done by four different individuals. For the Big Blue (2-1-1), Emma Hunt, Shauna King, Megan Hartman, and Leah Dowley all scored. Sam Rizzo made three saves.Beverly 4, Salem 0At Beverly, Caitlin Harty scored two goals and added an assist. Eva Gourdeaux added a score. Kyra Wolonsavich made two saves. The Panthers are 3-0-1.Notre Dame 2, Fenwick 0At Hingham, the game was knotted at 0-0 at the half; however, Fenwick (3-1-1) allowed two quick goals in the second half. Fenwick netminder Merry Harrington recorded 15 saves.
