REVERE – Revere could not penetrate Malden’s defense with its running game in a 29-0 loss in the Patriots’ home opener at Harry Della Russo Stadium Friday night.Malden struggled initially with Revere’s defensive front before tailback Ray Sainristill (145 rushing yards) struck for the first of his four touchdowns on a 50-yard run.”I thought we played better football than we did in the game against Medford at least in the first half,” said Revere head coach Lou Cicatelli. “I thought the defense played very well.”With each team failing to move the ball past midfield throughout the majority of the opening half, Malden struck first. In the second quarter, Sainristill started to run up the middle. After getting past Revere’s front seven, he cut to the right as he went untouched into the end zone.Meanwhile Revere’s offense fumbled twice and committed 28 yards in penalties in the first half. “They’ve been an odd front the whole time and they changed to a four-man front,” said Malden head coach Joe Pappagallo. “That four-man front confused a couple of my linemen. I have three underclassmen, but they were able to adjust.”The score stayed at 7-0 at halftime.Malden added another score when they began their first possession of the second half at their own 20. Three plays later, Sainristill took a toss to the outside and ran down the left sideline for a 54-yard jaunt to give the Golden Tornadoes a commanding 14-0 advantage about midway through the third quarter.”Ray is a very special player,” said Pappagallo. “He’s one of the better running backs in the Greater Boston area.”After the Patriots fumbled inside their own 10-yard line late in the third quarter, Malden put the game out of reach on the next play. Sainristill sprinted into the left corner of the end zone.”They got two big touchdowns on us in the second half,” said Cicatelli. “I’ve got two young kids in the wrong place at the wrong time.”Kaleb Silva had a solid game for the Patriots. He was all over the field making tackles on defense and he produced 78 yards on the ground.”He played unbelievable on defense,” stated Cicatelli. “He’s a hard worker.”Overall, Revere’s offense took one step forward, but they would take two steps back. Malden’s defense would not allow Revere’s young offense to get in gear.
