Roundup: Prep, Saugus win in golf

Youth served the St. John?s Prep golf team well Tuesday in a 228-248 win over BC High at Salem Country Club.Sophomore James Turner shot a 3-under 33 and sophomore Steve Dilisio of Swampscott fired a 1-under 35 for the Eagles (6-1, 3-0). The Prep also got fine performances from Mark Turner (39), senior captain Jeff O?Connor (40), and freshman Chris Francoeur (40).St. John?s Prep will attempt to avenge its only loss of the season today at Kernwood Country Club against Central Catholic.Saugus 146, Rockport 104At Cedar Glen Golf Course, the Sachems (2-5) had good rounds from Cam Norton (32 points); Joey Prince (30 points); Joe Geicka (25 points) and Jack Furey (21 points).Peabody 52 1/2, English 19 1/2At The Meadow, the Tanners won at all eight spots led by Nolan Franey, who won 5-4 at No. 1. Peabody is 5-3-1. English?s Matt Sencabaugh shot a 43 on the front side, finishing with a birdie on the ninth hole in a losing effort in the one spot. English is 2-5.Winthrop 21, Swampscott 51At Winthrop Golf Course, Griffin Hunt had the lone Swampscott win, taking his match at No. 8, 6-3. The Big Blue (4-5, 2-3 Northeastern Conference) play Peabody today.Manchester 175, Lynnfield 145At Sagamore Spring Golf Club, the Pioneers dropped to 4-3 on the season despite strong performances from Braden Zanni (28 points) and Nick Eliopoulos (27 points).Beverly 60 1/2, Salem 11 1/2At Beverly Golf and Tennis, Salem had good performances from Kyle Dougherty and Josh Powers. Still, a strong Beverly team proved too much on the afternoon.FIELD HOCKEYTriton 5, Lynnfield 4At Lynnfield, a game knotted at four literally came down to the very last second. With just one tick remaining on the clock, Triton scored to break the tie and steal a win.In the back and forth game, Lynnfield?s Bailey Fanikos scored three goals and recorded an assist. The Pioneers (3-2-1) also had a goal from Stefania DeAngelis, and a very strong game out of senior captain Tara Doherty.VOLLEYBALLFenwick 3, Matignon 0At Cambridge, the Crusaders won in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-9, 25-15. They were paced by Chandler Wilder with 13 digs, Julie Ywuc with 11 assists, and Jen Crovo with 12 kills. Also performing well was Madison Camelo, recording eight kills. Fenwick?s record now stands at 6-1 on the season.Spellman 3, St. Mary?s 0At Brockton, a strong service game out of Dakota McMahon was not enough to lift St. Mary?s. McMahon recorded 10 service points in the effort. The Cardinals won in straight sets, 25-12, 25-16, 25-14.BOYS SOCCERManchester 5, Swampscott 1At Swampscott, Roman Ganchin scored the lone goal for the Big Blue (1-3-1) on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.GIRLS SOCCERLynnfield 3, Triton 0The Pioneers spread the scoring around with Lexi Yannone, Jackie Whelan and Emily Scollard all finding the net. Hannah Travers posted the shutout, stopping a penalty kick in the process.
