Boys Soccer: Peabody blanks Beverly

Matt Fraser

September 26, 2013 by Matt Fraser

The Peabody boys soccer team is off to a 5-0-1 start this season, and balance has played a key role in the Tanners? scorching start. The same factor was evident in the Tanners? 2-0 win over the Panthers on Wednesday afternoon in Beverly.?We got a solid team effort today with everyone from the goaltender on out playing a good game,” said Peabody coach Stan McKeen. “Our offense wasn?t overpowering today but we got solid goaltending and our defense was terrific.”Senior keeper Rob Smith pitched his fourth shutout of the season while making seven saves.?He has played really well this season and is such a great communicator with the defense, which makes them even better,” explained McKeen. The Tanners scored once in each half, the first off the foot of C.J. Alimonti, nine minutes into the game. Beverly keeper Justin Carnavale mishandled a cross from Ben Manoogian before Alimonti buried the rebound.Connor Wolff increased the Peabody lead at the ten-minute mark of the second half with help from Manoogian and Jake Silva. After Silva slid a pass through to the right side, Wolff?s shot to the far post from 25 yards out found its mark.Peabody will look to keep up the momentum on Friday at home versus Winthrop.Swampscott 2, Winthrop 1At Swampscott, the Big Blue relied on Max Carbone?s two goals in a narrow victory over the visiting Vikings. Carbone?s first tally came unassisted off a corner kick before Josh Price set up his second goal. Will Green made seven saves in net for Swampscott. The Big Blue (2-3-1) play next on Friday at home versus English.Triton 2, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield, the host Pioneers outshot the Vikings, but failed to convert in the shutout loss.?We generated some pretty good chances, I thought, thanks to the play of our midfielders, but we hit a few posts and couldn?t find a way,” explained coach Brent Munroe.Lynnfield (1-5-1) plays at Pentucket on Friday.Fenwick 3, Archbishop Williams 2At Braintree, the visiting Crusaders (4-5-1) got the go-ahead goal from Joey Gray at 15:53 of the second half and hung on for the victory. After a Greg Enos goal gave Fenwick a lead at the half, the Bishops scored two straight goals before Troy Belleville knotted the score. Fenwick plays again Saturday morning at Malden Catholic.Classical 5, Salem 2At Salem, the Rams (3-5-0, 2-4-0) scored four times in the first half en route to a win over the Witches. Yabesi Musema scored twice for Classical, while Abitalib Girdia, Keregya Nasibu and Jesus Viveros added solo tallies. Salem (0-4-2) got goals from Craig Dennahey and John Krimble. Classical plays on Saturday at home versus Danvers.Revere 4, English 1At English, the Bulldogs gave up a pair of goals in each half before finally tallying in the 70th minute. Oscar Sanchez cut the deficit to three but Revere had the game well in hand. The loss drops English to 3-3-1. The Bulldogs play again on Friday at Swampscott.Prep 6, Cath. Memorial 1At Westwood, the Eagles scored twice in the opening 40 minutes, before exploding for four goals in the second half. Matt Chilton and Paul Magazzu gave the Prep a 2-0 lead at the half before Justin Blanch, Tom Erikson, Stephen Heintz and Magazzu tacked on goals in the second half. The Eagles (6-0-1, 4-0-0) play next on Saturday in Weymouth.Rockport 4, Saugus 2At Rockport, Saugus found itself down 3-1 at the half and could never fully recover. Aleska Samardzic scored the Sachems? first goal, assisted by Jorge Chiquillo. Guilherme Barbosa scored the final goal for Saugus late in the second half. Scott Meuse had a solid performance on the defensive end for Saugus (1-5-1).
