In a city with a proud basketball legacy, there is now a semi-pro hoop franchise: the North Shore Tides of Lynn.The Tides will play as a first-year expansion team in the American Basketball Association (ABA), with their home games at Tech. They are owned by Nahant native Jake Canty, a member of the Lynn Tech Class of 2008.?I think we?re going to bring the community together in wintertime,” Canty said.The Tides? coach, Troy Brown, is from Lynn, and their roster includes Tony Gallo, Corey Bingham, Alvin Abreu, Dorian Brown, Mike Clifford and Malik Stith. Their season starts on Nov. 9 against the Brooklyn Blackout.On Saturday at Tech, the Tides will have an introductory event at 7 p.m.?We?ve reached out to the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA,” Canty said, noting there will also be a game. “It?s the first time there will be semi-pro ball on the North Shore.”The ABA has had Massachusetts ties before, with players like Julius “Dr. J” Erving, who played college ball at UMass-Amherst.
