NAHANT – The Nahant Housing Authority is asking town residents to pardon their appearance while their parking lot gets a much-needed paving. With grants from the Community Preservation Act and the Department of Housing and Community Development, the parking lot will be re-paved, and one set of stairs and handicapped ramp will be repaired for the safety and wellbeing of the Spindrift building?s senior and disabled residents.?The stairs were crumbling,” said Donna McDonald, the housing authority?s director. “It was hazardous.”The cracks in the sidewalk together with the uneven surface made it tough to maneuver the parking lot with canes and wheelchairs, added McDonald.?It needed to be done and we did it,” she said. “We pulled money from everywhere we could.”McDonald said crews informed her that the job would take a few more days. During construction, residents and visitors must park on Nahant Road instead of in the lot.?Everybody will be inconvenienced for a few days, but it will be better in the long run,” said McDonald.
