One Lynn team wants to keep the ball rolling Saturday night while the other one would prefer to kick the ball in another direction.Lynn Tech is back in action at Manning Field Saturday night (7) against North Shore Tech, two weeks after scoring their first win over the season, a 34-7 win over Greater Lowell.Rafy Lora was the star of that game, rushing for 207 yards against the Gryphons. Tech’s home opener was to have been last week, but the Pope John team the Tigers were scheduled to play has been disbanded (for this year, at least) and absorbed with Chelsea High. The Bulldogs are 2-2, but 1-0 in the Commonwealth/Small, having defeated Chelsea last week.St. Mary’s at WilliamsAt Braintree (7), the Spartans took one on the chin last week, losing to Austin Prep at home, 22-14, after piling up more than 100 points in their first two wins over Swampscott and Amherst-Pelham.If there was a positive in losing to the Cougars, it was the play of quarterback Antonio Felix, a sophomore, who found Jordan Manthrone for two long TD passes, one for 28 yards and the other from 76. The Spartans were also knocking at the door to perhaps tie late in the game, but couldn’t put the equalizer across.Archbishop Williams fell to its usual Thanksgiving rival (Cardinal Spellman) last week, 21-7, in its first Catholic Central/Large game. The Bishops are 1-2 overall.Manchester at LynnfieldAt Lynnfield Middle School (3), the Pioneers seem primed to contend for their second straight Super Bowl appearance. Thus far, they are 3-0 and have outscored their opposition by an average of 32-14.Last week, Kyle McGah scored three touchdowns in the Pioneers’ 41-7 win over Amesbury.Manchester is 2-1, and has won two straight.Malden Catholic at St. John’sAt Cronin Stadium (3), life without Johnny Thomas begins. The senior all-everything running back tore his anterior cruciate ligament in last week’s loss to Everett, ending his high school career. On the plus side, the Eagles have not lost to the Lancers since 1996, back in the days when James Perry was calling signals and Kevin Quinlan was doing the running for MC.Lynn’s Brendan Tobey is the starting quarterback for MC, but is injured and will not play.Winthrop at SalemAt Hurd Stadium, Beverly (2), the game is in Beverly because Bertram Field in Salem is still being renovated. The Witches have had a tough start (0-3) including last week’s 41-14 loss to Classical. Winthrop has fared better, sandwiching wins over Saugus and Revere over a loss to Swampscott.
