Roundup: St. Mary’s sweeps CCL frosh/soph cross country meet

The St. Mary’s boys and girls cross country team both won the CCL freshman/sophomore meet Thursday at Bishop FenwickThe Spartan boys took four of the top five spots in the two-mile race. Leading the way for St. Mary’s was Mike Cerulli (2nd overall, 11:27). The rest of the Spartan top finishers were: Cody Murtagh, (3rd, 11:31); Thomas Mackin, (4th, 11:32); Matt McManus, (5th, 11:40) and Liam Foley, (8th, 12:03). Fenwick finished sixth as a team and Matt Loehle led way (7th). For the girls, Fenwick’s Sydney Packard finished first with a time of 12:58. The Spartans had five girls finish in the top 15. St. Mary’s top finishers were: Sarah Ryan, (7th, 14:23); Sarah Corbett, (8th, 14:34); Larissa Bogomolov, (10th, 14:39); Elizabeth Weisse, (12th, 14:50) and Hannah Walker, (15th, 15:10).FIELD HOCKEYSwampscott 2, Danvers 0At Swampscott, the Big Blue (6-2-1) won its sixth in a row on unassisted first-half goals by Tori Thistle and Victoria Himaras. Katie Papel (10 saves) was spot on in net with help from defenders Angela Videtta and Nora Walker.Peabody 3, Everett 0At Peabody, the Tanners (4-5) had two goals from Jenna Ferullo and one from Evangeline Anderly with Dayna Collins collecting two assists. Ally Baly was in net. Peabody was wearing pink for breast cancer awareness.Marblehead 3, Malden 1At Marblehead, Madison Shea, Maggie Danforth and Suzanne McCarthy accounted for the Magicians (6-4) scoring with Eliza Fitzgerald getting two assists.VOLLEYBALLArlington Catholic 3, St. Mary’s 1At Lynn, the Cougars won 25-11, 25-11, 25-27, 25-11 despite strong play from Molly Doyle and Vanessa Mayler. The Spartans are 3-8.
