Volleyball: D’Agostinio leads Classical past Winthrop

The Classical High volleyball defeated Winthrop, 3-0, Friday at Winthrop with captain Cassie D’Agostino providing a big boost were a stellar game at the service line.The Rams (5-5) won 25-20, 28-26, 25-21. D’Agostino’s seven consecutive service points in the first game helped spark a comeback. Jaheirie Collazo also had seven straight service points in that first set and D’Agostino struck again in the third with set five straight points.Christine Alcalde and Sarina Soth had some nice digs; Michelle Nwogu had seven kills and Ivy Martin, five.Peabody 3, English 1At English, the Tanners (10-0) qualified for the state tournament for the 10th time in coach Lisa Keene’s 10-year run. They won 25-13, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-13.Carolyn Scacchi (23 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces); Olivia Summitt (7 kills) and Emily Diezemann (5 kills) all contributed. Jillian DeFelice and Katie Gallo were effective with the serve.English coach Laurie Wentzell was pleased with her team’s play against the perennial powerhouse. Jillian Ballard hung tough despite playing with an injured wrist part of the game and Vicky Mercado did a good job in her debut at libero. The Bulldogs are 6-4.Notre Dame 3, Tech 0At Tech, Notre Dame won 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 despite strong play from Yamiryshka Fraticelli and Yerania Castro. Tech is 3-5.Beverly 3, Marblehead 0At Beverly the Magicians (2-8) had strong performances from Lindsay Simmons (5 kills, 1 block); Maeve Daley (5 kills); Julia Marsden (13 digs) and Isabel Marcey (12 assists). Lynnfield 3, Masco 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (8-2) took on a talented Masco team and won 28-26, 25-11, 12-25, 25-12. Senior Kelly Corcoran (10 kills, 14 digs) and Ashley McRae (17 digs, 4 kills) played well.KIPP 3, Boston Prep 0At KIPP, the Panthers (5-1) dominated Boston Prep from tip to tail (25-4, 25-13, 25-7). Leading the way for KIPP was the trio of Sherrece Doman, Jilliana Rodriguez and Helen Maldonado.Swampscott 3, Danvers 0At Swampscott, the scores were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-13.Outside hitter Gina Asipenko had 10 kills and six aces. Faye Liakopoulos chipped in with 25 assists, Taylor Irwin scored four kills and outside hitter Louisy Cim had four kills and three aces.
