English golfers defeat Classical

The Classical and English golf teams locked horns Tuesday at Gannon and it was the Bulldogs coming away with a 44 1/2 to 27 1/2 win to earn a split for the season.?I was very proud of the team for grinding it out and coming through with the victory,” English coach Tara Friedman said. “Classical beat us by a similar score (earlier in the season) and today happened to be our turn.”English?s Matt Sencabaugh and Classical?s Brett Erelli halved their match at No. 1. English?s Matt Bruneau defeated Kyle Morelli at No. 2, 8-1; Joe Calnan came from behind to defeat Classical?s Eric Brazell, 5 1/2-3 1/2 at No. 3; English?s Dan Rustani topped Mark Brazell at No. 4 and teammate Chris Cole won at No. 5, 5-4.Classical?s Andre Gaudet toped Christina Lannon at No. 6, English?s Matt Cole defeated Steven Patrie at No. 7 and Classical?s Sean Dean defeated Nick Madden in the eight spot, 5-4.The win gives English a 4-7 record.?English played very well today. They really thumped us,” Classical coach Jack Morrison said.Morrison said the match at No. 1 was very competitive.?I think the Erelli-Sencabaugh match was even going into the last hole,” he said. “Those two kids are pretty competitive and pretty good number ones for each team … Tara has done a great job with that team and we just didn?t have our best stuff.”Although there has been a fair amount of rain over the last few days, the course was unaffected.?The course played well,” Morrison said. “Overall the course was in great condition.”English has one match remaining against Marblehead.The Bulldogs? four wins are the most in recent memory and the players are enjoying the ride.?This is a real special team,” Friedman said. “This is a wonderful group of kids.”
