Two of the area?s elite football teams, in terms of record, are in action Saturday afternoon as Week 6 of this year?s high school football season concludes. At Hurd Stadium, Beverly will host 5-0 Marblehead while in Georgetown, Lynnfield, 4-0, will go on the road to play the Royals.Marblehead at BeverlyAt Hurd Stadium (1), the two teams became rivals when both were in the Northeastern Conference/South and again, last year, when they were both in the Cape Ann League/Northeastern Conference Tier 2. During much of that time, they squared off against each other for league titles.Last year, Beverly won the game and went on to win the Division 2A Super Bowl with a victory over Natick. This year, Marblehead won its first four games easily and seemed to be en route to another blowout last Friday before Gloucester staged a fourth-quarter rally and came within two points of tying the Magicians.Beverly, on the other hand, has had a tough start. The Panthers are 1-3 overall; in the newly-realigned Northeastern Conference/North they are 0-2 (as opposed to 2-0 for Marblehead).Still, the Panthers are coming off a bye, which has given coach Dan Bauer and the Panthers some extra time to prepare.Marblehead coach Jim Rudloff is a former assistant at Beverly with Bauer.Lynnfield at GeorgetownAt Georgetown (2), last week, in a 42-0 win over Manchester-Essex, the Pioneers? Kyle McGah ran for two scores and John Knee caught two touchdown passes. So far, this season, the Pioneers have won their four games by a combined score of 139-41.The Royals are off to an 0-4 start, 0-2 in the Cape Ann League/Small.Minuteman at TechAt Manning Field (7), the Tigers have only played three games thus far this season, thanks to byes in Week 1 and again two weeks ago. Thus far, they are 1-2, and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference/Small.Minuteman has opened with a 3-1 mark, and is 1-0 in the CAC/Small.Tech?s Rafy Lora had a game to remember two weeks ago in the Tigers? win against Greater Lowell.
