The teacher told officers she became concerned as Lark became increasingly agitated as the staff explained what had happened on the bus, according to the report. Lark began to hold the child’s hand very tightly, causing the child to scream and run out of the office, Kennedy said.Kennedy said the teacher watched as Lark chased and then forced the child to the car, hearing Lark yell “get in the (expletive) car, I’m going to beat your ass if you don’t get in.”The teacher told officers she came outside and saw Lark hitting the child and yelled for him to stop, but the car began driving away, according to the report. The child eventually jumped out of the car and it didn’t stop, according to the report.Kennedy noted a second woman told police she also witnessed the alleged assault and confirmed the teacher’s account. Police said the child suffered scratches and bruises on his arm but was not bleeding.Kennedy requested Lark be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.Lark denied the allegations, but his attorney did not argue probable cause.Lark’s sister said outside the courtroom, however, the child had recanted the story, however, and the police report was “completely false.””He hasn’t abused those kids, never abused them, doesn’t even discipline them; that’s the mother’s job,” Toccara Lark said. “They made my brother out to be a monster when none of that happened.”Toccara Lark said the child had mental-health issues and her brother was trying to keep the child from getting out of a moving car.Judge James LaMothe ordered Melvin Lark held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Oct. 22.
