REVERE – A Revere man is scheduled to be arraigned on an assault charge today in Chelsea after he allegedly broke a casino-supporter’s nose at a rally Saturday morning.”He struck me twice and then threatened to kill me,” the alleged victim, Louis Ciarlone, said in a statement provided by Suffolk Downs. “X-Rays showed a broken nose in two places. His attack was completely unprovoked and his threats have me concerned about my safety and the safety of my family.”Charles A. Lightbody, 53, of 55 N. Marshall St. #1, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a +60/disabled person with injury; at 11 a.m. Saturday.Suffolk District Attorney spokesperson Jake Wark said Lightbody was charged after allegedly punching a 61-year-old Revere resident in the face during a casino-related rally on Broadway in Revere Saturday.Ciarlone, the president and business manager of Local 123, which represents workers at Suffolk Downs, said Lightbody was the leader of an anti-casino group and approached him at the rally.Ciarlone said Lightbody was angry Ciarlone had criticized the anti-casino campaign. Lightbody then allegedly punched him.Lightbody’s attorney, Tim Flaherty, could not be reached Tuesday evening for comment. But Flaherty told the Boston Herald any punches attributed to Lightbody would be because Lightbody was hit in the face with a campaign placard while exercising his right to free speech.Lightbody was convicted of larceny in New York in 2007 in connection with an identity-theft ring scamming passengers at Logan Airport. “We have worked to ensure a dialogue that is respectful of all points of view as we have discussed the benefits of our development in our host communities for the last several years and we will continue to do so,” Chip Tuttle, chief operating officer of Suffolk Downs, said in a statement. “The unprovoked attack on one of our representatives has me concerned for the safety of our family of workers and volunteers.”
