LYNN – A judge ordered a city man held without bail after police said the defendant chased and shot at another man Friday morning near Lewis Street. Police also said they recovered two stolen guns and marijuana when they arrested the defendant.Vanara Thach, 25, of 63 South St., was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card; discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, two counts; possession with intent to distribute Class D drugs; possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card; carrying a firearm without a license; larceny of a firearm; and warrants at 10:48 a.m. Friday, according to court documents.Thach was arraigned Monday afternoon in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.A witness flagged down police responding at 10:17 a.m. Friday to Stone Place on reports of shots fired, according to a report by Lynn Police Officer Jerren Griffin. The witness reported he was at a local bar on Lewis Street when he saw an Asian male in a white T-shirt and jeans chasing and then firing several times at another man who was wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt.Police said several witnesses reported the alleged shooter went into a nearby home on Stone Place. Officers entered the home and found Thach – who matched the suspect description and “seemed to be breathing hard and was anxious by our presence” – in a doorway at the top of the stairs, according to police.Police searched the home and reported recovering two guns – a Glock 40-caliber reported stolen from Connecticut; and a Smith and Wesson reported stolen from Georgia – five bags of marijuana, scales and packaging.Officers also found a 40-caliber round on Thach. Police reported recovering several gun casings in the area, and the initial witness positively identified Thach as the shooter.Police said they had not identified the victim of the gunshot, who was last seen running toward Cherry Street. No bystanders or nearby residents were reported harmed in the report.Essex Assistant District Attorney Mark Byron requested Monday that Thach be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, according to court documents.Judge Stacey Fortes accepted the request, ordering Thach held without bail until a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Wednesday, according to court documents.An attorney appointed to represent Thach could not be reached for comment Monday evening.Police Monday said the case remained under investigation.
