SAUGUS – Saugus police report that two fiberglass black calves valued at $1,000 each were stolen from the Hilltop Steak House sometime over the weekend.
The iconic restaurant closed its doors Sunday after 50 years in the Route 1 location.
Saugus Police Asst. Chief Ronald Giorgetti said the department received an itemized list from restaurant managers today with everything that?s been stolen since last week. The list reports 200 plates valued at $20 each, 300 menus and covers valued at $5 each, a painting of a Native American women valued at $300, and two copper pots valued at $600 each were all taken from the restaurant.
One of the pots was recovered, Giorgetti reported, after a caller gave police a tip as to its location.
Giorgetti said the majority of cows have not been stolen, and added that they are in the process of being sold or gifted to individuals.
The police department is asking for help from the Saugus community to recover the items.
