The St. Mary?s volleyball team launched a memorable comeback on the road Tuesday night, coming back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Cathedral, 3-2.The Spartans ran smack into senior night at Cathedral, and they may have been a little taken aback by a gym full of people.?We?re not used to seeing a cheering section, especially one against us,” said St. Mary?s coach Erin Menard. “There were a lot of boys in the gym, and I think their presence may have rattled us a little.?We just had to settle down,” she said. “Once we did, we were all right.”The problem in the first two sets, won by Cathedral 25-23 and 25-18, was the Spartans? erratic serving.?We were just giving away points,” Menard said. “But we pulled ourselves together.”Beginning in the third set, St. Mary?s became deadly with its serves. In all, the Spartans had two bad serves in the final three sets. Francesca Simon led the way, with St. Mary?s (5-12) winning 15 points off her serves (six of them aces).?Our serving is what picked us up,” she said.Also for St. Mary?s, Megan Geaney had eight kills at the net.Fenwick 3, Spellman 0At Spellman, the 10-1 Crusaders breezed, 25-4, 25-17 and 25-11. Kate Lipka had 16 kills, Madison Camelo had five kills and five blocks, Tessa McLaughlin 30 assists, and Jen Crovo five kills and 10 digs. The Crusaders are at Medfield Thursday.Salem 3, English 0At English, the Bulldogs (9-6) lost in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-17.Swampscott 3, Ham-Wen 1At Hamilton-Wenham, the Big Blue (10-7) won 24-26, 25-19, 30-28, 25-19. Outside hitter Gina Asipenko had 19 kills, 7 serving aces and outstanding serve receive passing. Opposite hitter Becky Vulihk had 2 kills, 9 serving aces and 10 blocks.Middle blocker Melissa Stephens had 2 kills, 9 blocks and 2 aces, and middle blocker Taylor Irwin had 5 kills with 8 blocks. Setter Faye Liakopoulos had 25 assists with 3 serving aces.BOYS SOCCERTech 8, Minuteman 0At Manning Field, Emerson Imul scored four goals as the Tigers boosted their record to 7-7-1. They need two points in their remaining two games to qualify for the tournament.Also scoring for the Tigers were freshman Pa Sowe (2 goals), Belsar Gonzalez and Diego Zuluaga, another freshman.FIELD HOCKEYFenwick 2, Lynnfield 2At Fenwick, the Crusaders (10-6-1) got first-half goals from Kathleen Moran (who also had an assist) and Erin Clancy. Jackie Hart had the other Crusader assist. Bridgette Townsend made 11 saves in the game. Senior Caroline Crawford played well in the midfield. Lynnfield tied it with 12 minutes left in the second half.The Pioneers finished 10-5-3, getting goals from Bailey Fanikos (unassisted) and freshman Marianne Oliveri against Fenwick. Freshman Kathleen Hamm assisted on Oliveri?s tally. Co-captain Rachel Goodwin made four saves.Peabody 1, Revere 1At Revere, Sarah Blanchette scored for Peabody and Michaela Elliot scored for Revere, with both goals coming before halftime.Amanda McCarthy made 12 saves for Revere, which finished 3-13-1. This was the Patriots? first conference tie, coach Erin Parker said, adding that this was the best season the program has had in several years.
