The Lynnfield girls soccer team found itself down early against Ipswich Wednesday night. The Pioneers were able to come back and defeat Ipswich 3-1 at Ipswich.?This was a great win for our team,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said. “Ipswich is a very talented and tough team. It was great to see the girls really impose themselves on Ipswich, especially in the second half.”Lynnfield (14-2-2) was down 1-0 after the first two minutes of the game. The Pioneers answered a minute later, when Sam Filipe scored her first-ever varsity goal. At the 30-minute mark, Lynnfield took its first lead (2-1), when Jackie Whelan scored, assisted by Emily Scollard. Early in the second half, Pioneer Paige MacEachern scored, assisted by Whelan.Ham-Wen 2, Saugus 1At Hamilton, Saugus (1-14-1) struck first 10 minutes into to first half, when Mikayla Perella scored, assisted by Gabby Alba. Hamilton tied the game, 1-1, 10 minutes later, and the score remained tied at the end of the half. With two minutes left in the game, Hamilton scored the game-winner on a corner kick. Leading the way for the Sachems was the trio of Caitlin Williamson (goalie), Catherine Salvetti (defensive back) and Gillian Lyons (center-mid).St. Mary?s 1, Arl. Cath. 1At Arlington Catholic, the Spartans (6-7-2) scored first, when Kayla Capozzi scored midway through the first half. Arlington Catholic tied the game 1-1 with 16 minutes remaining in the second half. Sophia Holmes (center-mid) and Michaela St. Cyr (halfback) had strong performances for the Spartans, who need at least a tie and a win in their last two games to qualify for the state tournament.Minuteman 3, Tech 0At Lexington, the Tigers (2-11-3) got a gritty effort from forward Meagan LeBlanc, who broke her thumb in the morning, got it in a cast, and played the whole game. Goalie Coral Gonzales also played well for Tech. The Tigers did not let up a goal until just before halftime, and showed improvement from the teams? first meeting, which Minuteman won 7-0.Peabody 4, Salem 1At Peabody, Madison Doherty led the Tanners (12-1-3) with a hat trick. Erika Nelson also helped out (goal, 2 assists). Micayla Lachance, Katherine Scacchi, Alex Lomasney and Katrina Silva anchored a tough Tanner defense. Peabody clinched at least a share of the NEC title.Spellman 2, Fenwick 0At Fenwick, the Crusaders (9-6-2) were in a scoreless tie at halftime before Spellman broke through. Merry Harrington had a strong game in net for the Crusaders (15 saves).Marblehead 3, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the Magicians (11-3-2) took a 1-0 lead at the half. The Sachems, though, allowed two goals in the first four minutes of the second half. Saugus was led by goalie Owen Andruchow (15 saves) and forward Justin Kwadje.Codman Academy 7, KIPP 2At Ceylon Park, KIPP (1-8-1) was led by Charlie Huffman (2 goals) and Jesse Giron (2 assists).Lynnfield 0, Ipswich 0At Lynnfield on senior day, the senior-laden defensive line helped pitch a shutout, as did goalie Joe Bassi. The Pioneers are 3-9-5.Marblehead 6, Winthrop 1At Marblehead, the Magicians (9-3-4) did not disappoint on senior night, as they had 12 seniors who were recognized. Claudio Alvarez led the way for Marblehead (2 goals). Dan Whitehill, Chris Brady, Will Rockwell and Kaya Ulcay all scored one goal each for the Magicians. Chris Colcord chipped in with two assists for Marblehead. The Magicians have now qualified for the state tournament.
