REVERE – The Classical football team clinched a playoff berth with a 32-14 victory over Revere in the final regular season game at Harry Della Russo Stadium on a chilly Friday night.Devin Crayton and Brad Scuzzarella each scored two touchdowns to propel the Rams.”I’m proud that we scored at the end of the first half,” said Classical head coach Tim Phelps. “We came back from adversity well.”Classical, 4-3, 4-1, fell behind 14-8 with less than five minutes left in the second quarter when Revere quarterback Tommy Portrait found receiver Steve Selevitch in tight coverage in the end zone. Portrait scrambled towards the right sideline at the 30-yard line and heaved a pass. The throw landed just over the outstretched hands of a few Classical defensive backs into Selevitch’s waiting arms.On Classical’s next possession, the Rams were facing a third-and-9 from their own 35 before quarterback Jordan Brown ran an option down the right sideline to the Patriots’ 36 to give Classical a much-needed first down. Scuzzarella eventually put the Rams ahead on a 1-yard run in which he eluded a Revere tackle before barreling past the goal line.”I thought we played pretty well tonight,” said Revere head coach Lou Cicatelli. “A loss is a loss, but we gave them two touchdowns inside the 15-yard line.”The Patriots opened the game by holding Classical’s offense and forcing a punt. They fumbled on the second play of their opening possession and Classical pounced on the loose ball at the Revere 20. Two plays later, Crayton bullied his way through the middle of the Revere defense as Classical took an 8-0 advantage when Crayton delivered the two-point conversion midway through the first quarter. After each team did nothing on their ensuing possessions, Revere got the ball late in the first quarter. They traveled 60 yards with most of the yards coming through the air and eventually scored on a 19-yard pass from Portrait to Selevitch. Revere was having success with their empty-spread formation. Selevitch added the extra point as Revere was down 8-7.Classical fumbled and Revere recovered at the Rams’ 28. The Patriots were able to take the lead, but it was short-lived.”They packed the middle so we were forced to run outside,” said Phelps.
