The Classical boys soccer team came up with a big performance against Salem Friday, as the Rams defeated the Witches 4-0 at Manning Field, and have now qualified for the state tournament.Yabesi Musema put Classical (9-7-1) on his back, as he recorded a hat trick toe lead the charge. Musema also assisted on the Kereguya Nasibu goal as well. Andreas Dominovic and Strati Saranteas helped anchor a stingy Classical defense.Peabody 1, Beverly 0At Peabody, the Tanners (12-1-5) were tied 0-0 at the half. Ben Manoogian scored the game-winner for Peabody ten minutes into the second half, assisted by C.J Alimonti. Tanner goalie Rob Smith recorded his ninth shutout of the season (9 saves). Peabody has now clinched the NEC large title.Swampscott 6, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the Big Blue (3-11-4) were tied 1-1 at the half, but outscored the Vikings 5-0 in the second half. Ray Rosa and Dan Woolhiser scored two goals each for Swampscott. Senior co-captain Neil Lahrizi scored his first ever varsity goal for the Big Blue.Revere 2, English 0At Revere, the Bulldogs (7-8-2) were down 1-0 at the half, and had to play catch up the rest of the way.”We played good in spurts, but we unfortunately just could not finish,” English coach Kerry King said.Daniel Rovira had a strong showing at center midfield for English.Spellman 2, Fenwick 1At Spellman, the Crusaders (8-8-5) Jimmy Brophey tied the game 1-1 right before the end of the first half. Spellman scored the game-winner 20 minutes into the second half. Fenwick has its senior night on Monday against Bedford.GIRLS SOCCEREnglish 2, Revere 2At Manning Field, the Bulldogs (6-13-1) put the pressure on Revere in the first half, but only had one goal to show for it (Katherine Lozano). Revere went up 2-1, but English’s Veronica Uk came up with the equalizer with about six minutes remaining. Fullback Nicolette Angeli had an excellent game for the Bulldogs. Taegon Nelson and Caitlin Geaney split the game in net and senior Brianna Goulet, who missed the most of the season with a knee injury, was able to play a little against Classical and finish up with a full game against Revere.Salem 3, Classical 1At Salem, the Rams (9-7-2) were trailing 3-0 late in the second half when Briana Silva scored to prevent the shutout. The was the Rams final regular season game. Deema Hijleh, Nicole Sadoway and Katherine Towey scored for Salem (10-7-1, 8-6-2 NEC). Sydney Rocheville was very effective in net with Hayley Jellison solid on defense.Swampscott 2, Winthrop 0At Swampscott, Jayme Caponigro had both goals, one assisted by Shauna King and the other by Leah Dawley.Keeper Sam Rizzo had the shutout, and Lauren Sullivan played well defensively for othe 9-4-4 Big Blue.Beverly 3, Peabody 2At Beverly, the Panthers and Tanners shared the NEC Large title. Beverly (14-3-2) had goals from Caitlin Harty, Casey Cook and junior Eva Gourdeau, who recorded her 100th career point. The Tanners took the top spot despite sporting a relatively new roster this season.
