LYNN – A judge ordered a city man held without bail after police said the man attacked and repeatedly stabbed his roommate with a broken beer bottle.”He described [the defendant] as going crazy and believed he was on drugs,” Lynn Police Officer Kelly Aylward wrote in a report. “[The defendant] then jumped on top of him and attacked him with a broken glass beer bottle while yelling, ?I’m going to kill you! I’m going to kill you!'”Humberto Lopez, 39, of 63 Washington St. #2, was arrested and charged with mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; armed assault to murder; and assault and battery; at 2:29 p.m. Wednesday. He was arraigned Thursday in Lynn District Court, according to court documents.Police responded to a call of a man down on Henry Avenue at 5:32 a.m. Wednesday and arrived to find two men giving first aid to the alleged victim, according to police.Police said the alleged victim had extensive injuries with several deep wounds to his face and head. A wound exposed bones or tendons in the alleged victim’s left hand, according to police. The alleged victim told police he had awoken to his roommate, Lopez, screaming, according to the report. Lopez then allegedly attacked the alleged victim; who said he injured his hand trying to defendant himself. The alleged victim told police Lopez had cut himself in the neck during the fight and was hiding in the basement of 63 Washington Street. The alleged victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.Police reported being “immediately overwhelmed with a horrific scene” when they went inside the Washington Street apartment after following a trail of blood from the building’s back door to the second floor.”There was a large amount of dried and coagulated blood smeared on the walls and furniture as well as pooled on the floor in this room,” Police said, of the bedroom where the alleged attack occurred. “It was in a state of disarray and several pieces of furniture were covered in blood. There were numerous empty Corona beer bottles strewn about the room.”Police reported finding Lopez sitting on a mattress in the basement. Officers described the defendant as disoriented and seemingly drunk.”[The officer] asked [Lopez] what occurred inside of his apartment to which he only replied, ? he attacked me,'” police said.Lopez was taken to Union Hospital for superficial injuries to his hands and face and a cut on his neck, police reported. The alleged victim told police later at the hospital that he and Lopez had been drinking together Tuesday night. The alleged victim said he awoke later when Lopez fell and hit himself on a piece of furniture. Lopez then started screaming at the alleged victim and attacked the alleged victim with a glass beer bottle that broke in the course of the assault, the alleged victim said. The alleged victim told police Lopez “felt remorse” as he realized what was happening and “backed off stating, ?what have I done?'”The alleged victim told officers he called a friend to help him, not wanting to get Lopez in trouble or involve police. The alleged victim said he accompanied his friend to his home on Henry Avenue where another person, who later called police, came to help, according to the police.”It appeared to officers that [the alleged victim] was now trying to downplay the incident in attempts to protect Lopez,” Lynn Police Officer Jennifer Almonte reported. “We asked [the alleged victim] if he was in fear of Lopez, to which he replied, ?no, he is like my brother.”The Commonwealth requested Thursday that Lopez be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Lynn District Court Judge Albert Conlon accepted the request, scheduling a dangerousness hearing for Oct. 31, according to court documents.
