Roundup: Swampscott field hockey sees season end

The Swampscott field hockey team saw its season end Friday with a 2-1 home loss to Tewskbury in Division 2 North first-round action at Phillips Park.The Big Blue got a first-period goal by Annie Kane (assisted by Victoria Himaras) and took that lead into the break. But Tewksbury scored with 12 minutes left in the game to tie it, and then got the clincher six minutes later.?It?s too bad,” said Swampscott coach Toby Channen, whose team fell to 12-4-1. “It was back-and-forth all the way. It was a battle.?Basically, I have to commend my entire team,” she said. “They played their hearts out, and left it on the field. When the game was over, no one wanted to leave. They didn?t want it to end. That?s how close these girls were.”Watertown 7, Lynnfield 1At Watertown, Bailey Fanikos scored the only goal for the Pioneers (11-6-3). The top-seeded Red Raiders remain unbeaten.The Pioneers fell behind, 4-0, at the half. Still, coach Mamie Reardon thought her team played well early in the game.?We held them for a while, and my goalie (Rachel Goodwin) did well,” she said. “We just couldn?t generate a lot of offense.”Goodwin finished with 20 saves.GIRLS SOCCERFenwick 2, N. Caitlin Lodi had 13 saves, and Katrina Silva, Micayla Lachance, and Caroline Colbert played well.In boys soccer, Bedford eliminated Swampscott from the Division 3 North tournament, 5-1.
