Tournaments: Fenwick volleyball tops Weston

The Bishop Fenwick volleyball team blanked Weston, 3-0, in Division 2 North quarterfinal action at Fenwick on Tuesday.?The first set was definitely a battle,” Crusaders coach Adam DeBaggis said. “Then we sort of took over. They sort of made more mistakes as time went on.”Top-seeded Fenwick improved to 20-2.Kate Lipka had 14 kills, Olivia Morsey had 21 digs, Gianna Pizzano had 21 digs and Tessa McLaughlin had 24 assists for the Crusaders, who next play on Thursday at home against the Arlington Catholic-North Reading winner.Foxborough 3, KIPP 0At Pioneer Charter in Everett, KIPP (9-6) wrapped up its season with a loss in the Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization semifinals against top-seeded Foxborough. KIPP was the No. 4 seed.?I felt like the girls played so incredibly well,” coach Lauren Estebenell said. “We wanted to make sure Foxborough was the one that made the mistakes.”Helen Maldonado fought hard for every ball and had some great digs, P.K. Magazzu leads the team in goals with 15 and Chilton is right on his heels with 14.Prep goalie Zach Rowell had four saves, including one on a breakaway with six minutes left. The Prep defense also cleared two goals off the goal line on corner kicks.?We played very well defensively,” coach Dave Crowell said. “They were really good and they were fast.”Crowell said Lexington held the edge in possession, particularly in the first half, but St. John?s had the better scoring opportunities.?We?ve pitched two shutouts now,” Crowell said. “If we continue to play hard defensively and limit the other team?s chances, I think our chances are good.”Last year, St. John?s made it to the Division 1 North final before losing to Somerville.The Eagles will play Madison Park Thursday at Manning Field.In other boys tournament soccer, Masconomet defeated Danvers, 3-0, in Division 2 North.GIRLS SOCCERBeverly 4, Woburn 1At Beverly, the Panthers (16-3-2) will meet Concord-Carlisle in the Division 2 North quarterfinals. Holy Cross-bound Caitlin Harty (48 goals) had three goals and Rose Terner added the other one while Kyra Wolonsavich held down the fort in net.?We definitely played some very good soccer today. I was very pleased with how we played,” Beverly coach Kristin Simpson said. “Woburn is a very physical team. The way we?re playing and all connecting, it?s great to watch.”Beverly and Concord-Carlisle met last year in the quarterfinals. The Panthers won, 2-0, but Simpson is expecting the Minutemen to be tough.?They?re a very strong team again this year,” Simpson said. “It?s going to be a good game.”Winthrop 3, Mystic Valley 0At Mystic Valley, the No. 12 Vikings upset the hosts, seeded fourth, in D4 North quarterfinal action. Winthrop plays Austin Prep Thursday at North Reading High School (7) in the semifinals.Arlington 3, Salem 1At Arlington, the Witches saw their season end in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.Salem got a goal from Deema Hijleh, assist to Hayley Jellison. Sydney Rocheville had 5 saves on 8 shots. Salem was led by senior captains Alix Bryant and Brenna Burke.
