FRAMINGHAM – A judge set $250 cash bail for a Revere man state police said was drunk when several callers reported the man driving in the wrong direction down Route 495 in Hopkinton early Monday morning.”As several cruisers headed to the area, the vehicle was found stopped in the median strip, facing the wrong direction, with its lights out and the engine running,” state police wrote in a press release.Stuart Kirby, 53, of Revere, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second offense; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; and driving the wrong way; according to the press release.Troopers reported Kirby’s breath smelled of alcohol, and that Kirby was unsteady on his feet and needed help getting out of his car and keeping his balance. Kirby “believed he was on a side-street off of the highway and didn’t understand he was on the highway,” police said.A Framingham District Court judge ordered Kirby held on $250 cash bail at his arraignment Tuesday and Kirby is scheduled to return to court Dec. 31, according to a spokesperson for Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
