LYNN – A Marblehead developer said his plans to build 10 duplex homes on the Saugus-Lynn line is “a positive thing for Lynn,” but some neighbors on the hilly side streets near the proposed development site disagree. With Ward 7 City Councilor Rick Ford in support of them, 15 neighbors this week signed a petition stating their opposition to John and Susan Muldoon?s development. The Planning Board voted to table its review of the Muldoons? “Ocean View” project following a Tuesday hearing.Ford has scheduled a follow-up neighborhood hearing on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber to discuss the development, and Dell Court resident Karen Baker plans to attend the meeting. She said the Muldoons? plan to build on the steep ground off Oakland Avenue and its side street, Glen Court, presents traffic congestion and parking concerns along the narrow roads crisscrossing the neighborhood situated in a corner of the city off of Boston Street near the Saugus line.?This will let a bomb off in the neighborhood – it destroys its character,” Baker said. But Muldoon, who has developed residences around Fairmount Avenue over the last two years, said building new residences around Glen Court will benefit surrounding neighborhoods.?With more people in the area they would actually get better services. We hope to get started right away,” he said.Muldoon said the heights he wants to build on around Glen Court offer views of the Saugus River and Revere Beach, but Ford described the six-acre proposed development area as “a mountain” and said he met with city officials Thursday to get a sense of the construction and water supply requirements associated with building Ocean View.He said neighbors opposed previous plans to build in the Glen Court area and said drainage concerns and narrow existing roadways underpinned objections raised to prior projects.?Almost everyone is opposed to it – I?m standing with the neighbors,” Ford said.View Glen Court, Lynn in a larger map
