CAMBRIDGE – It’s going to take a victory over archrival Classical on Thanksgiving to smooth over a rough season for the Lynn English football team. At least that’s the mindset the Bulldogs had after a 20-6 loss to Cambridge on Friday evening at Russell Field.”We’re going to keep practicing hard and keep fighting until the season is over,” said English coach Peter Holey. “A win on Thanksgiving would wash away all the disappointment we’ve built up.”The Bulldogs were blanked in the first half, falling behind 13-0.The Falcons opened the scoring with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Marcus Collins connected with Elijah Booker on a 36-yard scoring pass. The tandem torched the English defense all game long, connecting 11 times for 192 yards. Booker hauled in his second touchdown of the half with 1:20 to play, corralling a dump pass and racing 70 yards for the score.”They beat us with the big plays tonight,” explained Holey. “That’s really what it came down to. We had no answer for those two guys.” In total, Booker hauled in five passes of at least ten yards. The Bulldogs committed four turnovers in the opening half, including three Lucas Harris interceptions. The junior signal-caller is still getting back into the swing of things after missing a solid chunk of time with an injury.”I think it has much to do with his mentality as it does him needing to shake off the rust,’ explained Holey. “He missed four straight weeks so hopefully things work out better for him and us as a team on Thanksgiving.”The second half didn’t turn out much better for the visitors as Collins hooked up with Alex Domond on a 64-yard touchdown on the Falcons second drive of the third quarter. The Bulldogs offense finally broke through with 3:29 remaining in the game as senior running back Zach Lozzi scored from 32-yards out. Cambridge added a fourth interception of Harris to end the contest.”The kids played hard and stayed disciplined,” said Holey. “I’m proud of the way the competed tonight. It was a tough loss for us but hopefully we can use this as a growing situation heading into our last game.”
