The North Shore Tides ABA basketball team split a weekend series with the Jersey Express, losing by eight points in New Jersey on Saturday and winning by eight at Tech on Sunday.?Scoring is not an issue,” Tides owner Jake Canty of Nahant said. “Rebounding and defense is our struggle.”On Sunday, the Tides got good games from power forward Dorian Brown, an English alum, and shooting guard Alvin Abreu, a Classical alum.?We started off strong,” Canty said. “Then, we played a consistent game.”He added that the team improved on its defense from Saturday?s game.?We held the lead for a long time,” he said. “In the third quarter, we stepped up. They (the Express) started to come back into the fourth.”However, the Tides starters returned and held on.On Saturday, he characterized the loss as “a game of runs.”The Express got a big game from Smush Parker, a former teammate of Kobe Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers. Parker had at least 20 assists, Canty said, adding that he did “a lot of scoring in the fourth quarter.”The Tides got a good game from shooting guard Corey Bingham, who was a 1,000-point scorer at Tech. Bingham scored over 20 points on Saturday.Bingham “brought a lot of energy on Saturday,” Canty said. “He was keying the runs, and led them singlehandedly.”Canty also mentioned English alum Dwight Brewington, saying that he “played well, with a lot of rebounds and a lot of energy.”The Tides are 2-2 on the season, 1-2 at home. Their next game is Saturday at Tech (7) against the Staten Island Vipers. They play the Vipers on the road on Sunday (1).
