SAUGUS – It will be up to Town Meeting members to decide the fate of the Curley property once again now that selectmen voted to place it as the subject of an article at the next annual or special town meeting warrant.Town Meeting members already voted against turning the 63.3 acre property off Walnut Street over to the Cemetery Commission in March 2011. But at its Nov. 26 meeting, the board felt that the question should be put back to voters, evident from the 51.11 percent voting majority from the non-binding Question 3 on the Town Election ballot, which asked voters again if they wanted the property converted into a cemetery.?The voters did speak,” said Selectman Maureen Dever. “Anytime someone wants something placed on the Town Meeting warrant, it should be placed on the Town Meeting warrant.”Selectman Debra Panetta agreed. “The voters are the pulse of the neighborhood,” she said.Cemetery Director Dennis Gould, who appeared before the board at the Tuesday meeting to propose the article, said he was willing to put it up for one more round at Town Meeting, but if it?s voted down again he will petition to put it on the next town election ballot.
