College Notebook: Anderson getting the job done

Caldwell College senior forward Jeanette Anderson of Lynn/English had 30 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in a 72-63 win over Georgian Court University last weekend. Anderson scored 24 points in the second half and was 12-of-22 from the field for the game. She also had two blocks.Former St. Mary?s hockey player Tom Braswell of Lynn is now playing for UMass-Dartmouth. Braswell, who did a post-graduate year at Bridgton Academy in Maine, scored his first goal for the Corsairs in a 2-2 tie against Curry College. Braswell?s goal came on a power play.Brothers Jared and Jake Fay of Lynn/Brimmer & May are teammates again. Both are guards on the Fordham men?s basketball team. Jared redshirted as a freshman and played in eight games last season. Jake, at 6-6, has played in all six games so far.Former Malden Catholic hockey standout Michael Vecchione of Saugus is now playing Division 1 hockey at Union College in New York. Vecchione has played in 15 games and has racked up five goals and seven assists for 12 points. Prior to coming to Union, Vecchione played two years for the Tri-City Storm. In his second season with the Storm, he had 26 goals and 34 assists. As a senior at MC, he helped lead the Lancers to a Division 1A title.Jack Bartlett of Lynn/Buckingham, Browne & Nichols/St. Mary?s has a goal and five assists for the Colby hockey team. Bartlett is a senior forward.Nick Grassa, a junior on the Salem State men?s basketball team, had 18 points in a win over Gordon College recently. Grassa earned SSU Athlete of the Week honors that week.The Framingham State men?s basketball team has a local flavor this season with sophomore Wale Abraham of Lynn/Classical and junior Josh Castillo of Lynn/English on the roster. Abraham, a 6-7 forward/center, is averaging 8.3 points per game as a starter. Castillo, a 5-11 junior guard, has been good for an average of 6.2 points per game.Senior Katelyn Kidney of Lynn/Classical is off to a strong start for the UMass-Dartmouth swim team. The Corsairs took third in the 2013 Little East Women?s Swimming & Diving Championship last week with Kidney recording three top-five finishes. She was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.29) and 500-yard free (5:26.91). She was fourth in the 200-yard free (2:01.45).Jarell Byrd of Lynn/English is averaging 11.8 points per game for the West Alabama University basketball team. Byrd has started all six games and is averaging 30 minutes a game. He had 18 points last week in a win over Stillman.
