LYNN – Police responding to reports of gunshots on Baker and Chase streets Friday arrested two city residents and a Salem man, the latter whom a judge ordered held without bail for an alleged attempted home invasion while the city residents were charged with weapons and drug offenses.”The firearm recovered during the execution of the warrant was located under a mattress on which (an 8-year-old child) was sleeping,” Lynn Police Officer Michael Crosby wrote in a report.Justice Gonzalez, 22, of 17 Tanglewood Lane, Salem, was arrested on a Lynn standard warrant and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts; carrying a firearm without a license; carrying a loaded firearm; discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building; and use of a firearm in a felony. He was also arrested on six default warrants.Evelyn Cadet, 30, of 84 Franklin St. #6, was arrested and charged with possession of Class B drugs; possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card (FID); possession of ammunition without an FID card; discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling; unlawful and improper storage of a firearm; and reckless endangerment to children.Darrell Wheeler, 25, of 84 Franklin St. #6, was arrested and charged with distribution of Class A drugs, subsequent offense; possession of a firearm without an FID, subsequent offense; a drug violation near a school; possession of ammunition without an FID; discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building; unlawful and improper storage of a firearm; felon in possession of a firearm; an Armed Career Criminal Act violation; and reckless endangerment to children. The defendants were arraigned in Lynn District Court Friday where pleas of not guilty were entered on each defendant’s behalf, according to court documents.Police reported responding to the area of Baker and Chase streets at 2 a.m. Friday on several reports of multiple gunshots.Police noted the multiple reports plus a confidential informant led them to the Franklin Street apartment; a significant development as officers had responded to reports of gunshots in the area on Oct. 21, Nov. 28, Nov. 30, Dec. 6 and Dec. 12, but “in most instances were not able to narrow down an exact location,” Crosby reported. The informant also reported Gonzalez was inside the apartment, police said.Police saw the “door to apartment #6 burst open,” and Wheeler come out, according to police. Wheeler was detained at gunpoint. Police sweeping the apartment found Gonzalez hiding in the bathroom, a “very surprised” Cadet and a box of .380 ammunition “in plain view” on a nightstand, police said.Police learned neither Cadet nor Wheeler had a license for the ammunition and arrested the two. Gonzalez was arrested on a warrant granted after police saw surveillance footage from Nov. 17 allegedly showing Gonzalez pulling a gun and assaulting a man in an Essex Street building.”Gonzalez now pistol whips (the alleged victim) twice and the firearm apparently discharges on the second hit against (the alleged victim’s) face,” Lynn Police Officer Craig Fountain reported. Police said the alleged victim told officers he was selling Gonzalez and/or his companion (the alleged victim did not know the men’s names) marijuana. After obtaining a search warrant for the Franklin Street home, police reported recovering a .38 caliber King Cobra revolver, 100 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition, 20 rounds of spent .38 caliber ammunition in the trash, suspected heroin from Wheeler, pills from Cadet, suspected marijuana and a scale with suspected heroin residue.Judge James LaMothe granted the Commonwealth’s request to hold Gonzalez without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. LaMothe ordered Cadet held on $2,500 cash bail, and Wheeler held on $7,500 cash bail, according to court records. All three are scheduled to return to Lynn District Court Thursday, according to court documents.
