SAUGUS – The Historical Commission continued in their efforts to develop Round Hill into an attractive historical site with the addition of a cast-iron fence for the site’s barrier.According to commission Vice Chairman Marilyn Carlson, the ornamental, cast-iron fence that once surrounded Keystone Battery on the corner of Winter and Central streets is being restored and will soon be installed at the Round Hill Historic Site. The fence was donated by retired school teacher Ruth Backer, in memory of her parents Jeannette and Benjamin Yanofsky, who owned the store. The fence is being transported to Cassidy Brothers Forge in Rowley to be restored over the winter and will be installed at the Round Hill Site in the spring. This project represents the historical commission’s commitment to preserve this landmark for future generations and to reaffirm the Native American influence in SaugusThe plan is for the fence to be complemented by granite posts and steel chains to provide a barrier along the Round Hill Street side of the site to highlight the historical significance of the site. There will also be natural landscaping.
