Hockey: Balanced Revere defeats Swampscott

It took the Revere boys hockey team 19 games last year to pick up its second win and this year, the Patriots are off to a 2-0 start thanks to a 5-0 win over Swampscott at Cronin Rink on Wednesday.?I told the kids that winning and losing have something in common. Arlington Catholic scored again before the end of the period and added an insurance tally in the second period.?We started off slow,” St. Mary?s coach Mark Lee said, adding that the second period was very evenly played and he thought the Spartans dominated the third.?We just struggled to put the puck in the net,” he said.Bailey MacBurnie was in net for St. Mary?s.Winthrop 4, Peabody 1At McVann-O?Keefe Rink, the Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on a power play goal by Chris Page and a shorthanded goal by Mark Gillis. They made it 3-0 on Page?s second goal of the night, but Peabody came back with an unassisted power play goal by Derek DeMild. The Tanners (0-2) saw the lead get back to three when Winthrop?s Zach Deeb scored with under a minute left in the game. Winthrop?s Ray Feeley had 24 saves and Peabody?s Steve Ferrante had 18. Freddie Robitaille (7 saves) also saw time in net for the Tanners.In other action, Lynnfield and Triton tied, 1-1. Marblehead defeated Danvers, 4-1.GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary?s 1, Archbishop Williams 0At Randolph, the Spartans pulled this one out of the fire thanks to a goal by Katie Terban with 12:52 left in the game. Katarina Roy and Tatiana Doucette had the assists. Lauren Skinnion had 30 saves in the shutout.?Archbishop Williams is an excellent team this year,” St. Mary?s coach Frank Pagliuca said. “They?ll be a serious contender in Division 2. This was a great win and a big league win for us.”Winthrop 3, Cambridge 0At Cambridge, Emma English, Olivia Shkliew and Katie Jeter took care of the scoring for the combined Winthrop/Lynn/Saugus team with Lynn?s Savannah Norcross, an eighth grader, assisting on all three goals. Gretchen Howard picked up the shutout.Medford 6, Marblehead 1At Medford, Brittany Smith scored the lone Marblehead goal in the first period. Medford?s Brittani Lanzilli, who played for St. Mary?s at one point, had a hat trick. Marblehead goalie Aly Hopkins faced 20 shots.
