Girls Hoop: Swampscott prevails over Gloucester

The Swampscott High girls basketball team pulled one out of the fire, defeating Gloucester, 60-57, Friday at Gloucester.Jacquie Walsh led the Big Blue with 17 points while freshman Jamie Caponigro delivered down the stretch with a key steal, basket and a pair of big free throws.?She won the game for us down the stretch,” coach Abrom Roberts said. “That was something for a freshman.”Gloucester was leading 57-54 late in the game when Walsh hit a shot to cut the lead to 57-56. Caponigro (12 points) stole an inbounds pass and got the layup to put Swampscott on top 58-57 and with 48 seconds remaining, she nailed two free throws to ice the win. Meghan Hartman also had a big night with 11 points.?I thought it was very exciting. Gloucester, under first-year coach Tara Driscoll (a former Swampscott High player), played a heck of a game,” Roberts said.Revere 33, Classical 30At Classical, the Patriots (1-1) were down six points late in the fourth quarter. Winthrop led 40-25 heading into the fourth quarter. Hannah Llewellyn had 14 points in the loss. Danvers is 0-1.
