The Lynn English girls basketball team is as well rounded and dangerous as any Northeastern Conference team, and they proved it on Monday night. The Bulldogs (3-0) had three players with double-digit point totals in a 55-29 victory over Beverly at Cavanagh Fieldhouse.Deidra Newson was a force on both ends of the floor for the hosts, scoring a game-high 21 points to pace the Bulldogs offense. The senior standout also pulled down 24 rebounds in the win.?Deidra was all over the place tonight,” explained English coach Fred Hogan.In addition to Newson?s stellar play, the Bulldogs got fantastic performances from Catherine Stinson who scored 10 points to go along with eight assists and Diondra Woumn who added 12 points and seven rebounds.Mikayla Everette chipped in with six points for the victors who jumped out to a17-4 lead after the first quarter and led by 21 (31-10) at halftime.Beverly had trouble mustering much offense, but did get solid production from Bridget Keaton who scored team-high nine points in the loss.English will have a much-deserved holiday break before continuing their season on Friday at the Boverini Tournament. The Bulldogs will play Lynn Tech in the opening round (12).Peabody 53, Classical 24At Classical, the visiting Tanners (2-1) got solid contributions all over the floor in a victory over the Rams. Carolyn Scacchi (seven rebounds) and Alex Lomasney each scored nine points while Olivia Summit added six points and eight rebounds. Melissa Gray (7 points, 5 steals) and Sara Hosman (5 points, 5 assists) also stood out. The Rams (0-2) got a game-high 13 points from Francesca Galeazzi.Marblehead 65, Gloucester 28At Marblehead, the Magicians improved to 4-0 behind a game-high 17 points from Mia Bongiurno. The hosts also got solid offensive contributions from Lindsay Walker (12 points) and Sara Snadecki (9 points). Marblehead played solid team defense against the Fisherman whose top scorer was Julianna Costanzo with nine pointsNotre Dame (H) 54, Fenwick 52At Hingham, the Crusaders came out on the losing end of a game that was decided at the free-throw line. The host-Cougars scored 15 points from the stripe, including 7 from Kendra Delahunt. Fenwick got a team-high 13 points from Sydney Brennan as well as 12 points from Kate Lipka. The Crusaders? Colleen Corcoran added 11 points in the loss.Danvers 47, Swampscott 26At Danvers, the host Falcons picked up their first win of the season against a young, Big-Blue team. Hannah Llewellyn hit three, three-pointers on her way to a game-high 15 points while teammate Emily McNulty added 11 points for Danvers. Tina Gigli chipped in with nine points for the victors. Swampscott (1-1) got eight points from Hannah Leary in the loss.Masconomet 75, Saugus 20At Saugus, the visiting Chieftains who scored at least 20 point in three quarters overpowered the Sachems. Masco?s Nicole Femino scored a game high 17 points while the hosts got 14 points from Norma Waggett. Saugus coach Mark Schruender lauded the efforts of Jess Allen who he credited with “taking charge in the second half.”
