Four games into the season the Revere High hockey team has already exceeded its point total of a year ago. The unbeaten Patriots rode a four-goal second period to a 5-1 non-league victory against Everett Monday afternoon at Allied Veterans Rink.Sophomore forward Joe Ristino connected for two goals, senior forward Cam Whelan added a single and defensemen Kevin Chiles (so.) and Mike Martorelli (sr.) both scored on booming shots from the point as Revere improved to 3-0-1. Senior goalie Adam Comeau picked up the win with a solid performance. “It?s a matter of hard work and discipline. This is our second year as a staff and it?s different. Last year they (the players) didn?t know us. Now they?re used to what we?re trying to do and they understand it,” said coach Joe Ciccarello.Swampscott 9, Rockport 5At Rockett Arena, the Big Blue (1-1-1) erupted for their first win of the season in a non-league game. Freshmen Mike Johnson (hat trick) and Louis Olivieri (2 goals) and senior captain Joey Silva (2 goals) sparked the attack. Junior Ryan Cresta had a goal and two assists while senior Griffin Hunt and sophomore Peter Doyle added a goal apiece.?We?re a young team and we?re learning to play with the lead. We only had 13 skaters due to injuries and sickness and I have to give those guys credit. It?s good to get that first win,” said coach Gino Faia.Marblehead 7, E. Longmeadow 1At Rockett Arena, the Magicians unleashed a 61-shot assault and scored six second-period goals as they bounced back from Saturday?s loss to Winthrop to improve to 3-1-0.Owen Picariello, assisted by Colin Daly, pulled Marblehead even at 1:33 of the second period and Alex Delvento netted the unassisted game-winner 53 seconds later. Tim Kalinowski, Matt Koopman, PJ Roy and Braden Haley scored before the end of the period and Liam Gillis added the final goal in the third to go along with two assists. Harrison Young had 19 saves for the win.Beverly 2, Newburyport 0At Rockett Arena, the Panthers improved to 5-0 behind a pair of Graham Doherty goals. Doherty scored in the final minute of the first period and again with a little more than a minute to play, assisted by Connor Irving on both goals. Goalie Tim Biarelli notched his third shutout and remains unscored on this season. Senior goalie Lauren Skinnion excelled with 40 saves.Sophomore Samantha Callahan scored two goals and set up classmate Katie Terban for the game-winner on the power play midway through the third period. Senior defenseman Tatiana Doucette gave the Spartans a 3-2 lead early in the third period. “I was disappointed in the second period because we sort of stood around and Reading is too good of a team to do that,” said coach Frank Pagliuca. “But, we found a way to come back. We showed grit and character and competed hard in the third period. We have to learn to do that for the entire game.”
