The Saugus High boys basketball team is temporarily under new management.Head coach Paul Moran is on a leave of absence while he deals with some health issues. His assistant varsity coach, Mark Bertrand, is filling in.?I?m on a little leave of absence. I?m trying to get my health right. I?ve been sick since August,” Moran said, adding he doesn?t know when he?ll return.?It could be two weeks, a month, a year. I don?t know,” he said.Although he can?t be with the team on a day-to-day basis, Moran is in close contact with his coaching staff.?I talk to the coaches every day. I look at game films. There are plenty of great coaches. The kids are doing great things. They?re 3-3. They haven?t missed a beat,” Moran said.Moran said the Saugus High administration (principal Mike Hashem, vice principal Mike Nelson and athletic director Rob O?Leary) has been very supportive during his absence.?I can?t say enough great things about Saugus High,” Moran said, adding that he?s also gotten a lot of support from fellow basketball coaches.?This year is a different type of year for me. I?ve got to learn to coach from the sidelines,” he said. “In the 13-14 years I?ve been coaching, I guess this one year I have to relax a bit.”
