Roundup: Classical, English split in track

Call it a split for the Classical and English track teams.The Classical girls defeated the Bulldogs 64-13 and the English boys returned the favor by topping the Rams, 55-27.In the girls meet, English?s Manyi Enow won the 2-mile (16:09), but it was Classical winning all the other events. The Rams swept the 300 meters, led by Jennifer Gaudet (46.6), and the 600, led by Rachel Jordan (2:05.4). Classical also had wins from Jenn Ierardi in the high jump (4-4) and the 1,000 (3:48.3); Fotini Galiotzakis, shot put (26-3 3/4); Devyn Astuccio, 50-yard hurdles and Taylor Ferraro, mile (6:40.4). Anna Wargo won the 50 dash (6.6).In the boys meet, English had wins from Emmanuel Ezemba, high jump (5-0) and 1,000 (3:04.9); Joshua Perez, shot put (36-2 1/4); Adam Bryson, 300 meters (41.6); Peter Matu, 600 meters (1:37.1); Ri Yan, mile (5:28.2) and Tyler Comer, 2-mile (11:33.5). English also won the relay. Classical had wins from Elias Gervacio in the 50-yard hurdles (7.8) and Chandler Laguerre, 50 dash.GIRLS TRACKSt. Mary?s 62, Marian 20At the Reggie Lewis Center, ZuZu Haefner won the high jump with a school record of 5-3 and the 55 hurdles (10:48). Rachel Hanlon won the 600 (1:53.64) and long jump (13-6 1/2); Toni Vinciarelli, 55 (7.96); Sam Saunders, 1,000 (3:56.4) and Tia Foglietta, 2-mile (12:19.5). The 4×400 relay also won with Haefner, Christine Hallisey, Foglietta and Bridget Cushing.Fenwick 68, Austin Prep 16At the Reggie Lewis Center, the Crusaders (3-1) were led by winners Caitlyn Parrotte, 55 (8.22); Annette Ruggiero, 300 (44.6); Sydney Packard, 600 meters (1:46.23); Natalie Emerson, high jump and 55 hurdles; Sabrina Sildagni, long jump (13-9); Katie Buonopane, shot put (26-7); and Samantha Claveau, Mary Pasquale, Packard and Jackie Edgett, 4×400 relay (4:39.26).BOYS TRACKFenwick 53, Austin Prep 32At the Reggie Lewis Center, Eric Razney was a double winner for the Crusaders (3-1) in the 55 (7.02) and long jump (18-3). Charlie Maistrellis won the 300 (37.35) and anchored the 4×400 relay that also included Nick Tambini, Mitch Rivers and Eric Loehle (3:51.05). Charlie St. Pierre won the shot put (35-3); Tambini, 55 hurdles (9.22); and Matthew Loehle 1,000 meters (3:07.69).St. Mary?s 40, Marian 36At the Reggie Lewis Center, Abraham Toe won the 55 (7:27), Brian Bouchard, shot put (36-1) 1/4) and Daniel Lange, 55 hurdles (11:03)St. John?s 66, CM 29At Reggie Lewis Center, the Eagles (4-0) had a strong performance from Joe Luongo of Danvers who won the 300 in 36.11. As of this weekend that is the fastest time in the state. Joe Nickerson won the 55 hurdles (8.45); Josh Raposa, mile (4:43); Tim Loehner, 1,000 (2:44); Colin Monahan, 600 (1:31); Vinnie LaRovere, shot put (45-11) and Josh Hubbell, long jump (19-4).GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary?s 0, Arl. Cath. 0At Connery Rink, the Spartans (3-0-2) fended off a tough Arlington Catholic team with a stellar effort by the defense and goalie Lauren Skinnion, who made 32 saves. St. Mary?s coach Frank Pagliuca was pleased with the way his team played against one of the toughest teams in the state.Watertown 3, Winthrop 0At Belmont, the combined Winthrop/Lynn/Saugus team racked up 10 penalties and never really got going. Watertown/Belmont scored two goals in the first period and added an empty netter with 1:27 left in the game. Winthrop freshman goalie Gretchen Howard had an excellent game with 38 saves. The Bulldogs are 5-1.BOYS HOCKEYDanvers 2, Lynnfield 0At Peabody, the Falcons got the winning goal from Tyler Dustini with 13 seconds left in the second period. James Curley added an insurance tally two minutes into the third, tipping home an Alec Littlefield shot. Joe Bassi had 24 saves for Lynnfield (0-4-2).SWIMMINGSt. Mary?s 87, Marian 66At Lynn YMCA on Sunday, the Spartans (1-1) had a productive day. Eve Smith, Hannah Walker, Sophia Gomes and Erik Whitcomb won the 200 medley relay (2:14.43) and Whitcomb, Smith, Walker and Abby DiVirgilio won the 200 free relay (2:01.29).
