Boys Hoop: Saugus plays with energy in victory

The Saugus boys basketball team defeated Masco 69-51 at Saugus Wednesday night.?We came out with a lot of energy and never let our foot off the gas pedal,” Saugus assistant coach Mike Pelletier said. “It was refreshing to see everyone play with full energy from the first whistle all the way to the final whistle.”The Sachems took a commanding 35-19 lead into halftime, and never were threatened. Joe Bertrand recorded another monster double-double for Saugus (25 points, 12 rebounds). Lamarr Jones had a strong all-around game for the Sachems (15 points, 6 steals, 4 assists). Saugus is now 4-5.English 84, Swampscott 48At Swampscott, the Bulldogs (6-0) defense forced the Big Blue into 16 first half turnovers, as English used its defense to take a big lead at the half (45-12). Leading the way for English was the duo of Fred Hogan (19 points) and Eric Rosario (13 points).For Swampscott (2-6), freshman Andre Reeves led the way (9 points), and Sam Walker had a solid performance off the bench (5 points, 5 rebounds).Danvers 58, Classical 49At Classical, the Rams (4-2) were down 29-27 at the half. The Rams had a tough time at the free throw line, as they missed 14 free throws.?We played hard, but just could not execute in the clutch spots enough to beat a solid team like Danvers tonight,” Classical coach Tom Grassa said.Leading the way for Classical was Kyle Doucette, who barely played in the first half due to foul trouble, but still recorded 17 points.Revere 48, Marblehead 45At Revere, the Patriots (3-5) struggled shooting from the outside in the first half, but their defense kept them in contact with the Magicians at halftime (29-22, Marblehead). Revere outscored Marblehead 15-6 in the third. Leading the way for Revere were Mike Ciambelli (12 points) and Jason Segal (11 points).?Give Revere credit, they were able to come back and fight their way back into the game,” Marblehead coach Mike Giardi said.Leading the way for Marblehead (3-4) were Will Millett (11 points, 17 rebounds) and Ryan Hines (10 points, 11 rebounds).Peabody 46, Winthrop 29At Peabody, the Tanners (2-4) struggled offensively in the first half, but got it going in the second to pull ahead. Freshman Matt D?Amato had his best offensive game to date with 12 points. Jared McCarron had 10 points and Matt Correale, 11 points.Beverly 80, Gloucester 55At Beverly, the Panthers (4-2) jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back. Nick Cross led the way for Beverly (21 points, 8 rebounds). Beverly?s Chris Sinclair scored a game high 22 points, and had five steals as well. Jon Berchoff chipped in with 14 points for the Panthers.
