Roundup: Lynn Jets skate past Salem

The Lynn Jets continue to get the job done with a 3-1 win over Salem Wednesday at Salem State?s Rockett Arena.?I thought from an effort standpoint it was our best showing in a while,” Jets coach Joe Conlon said. “Salem?s a hardworking team with a good goalie. It?s hard to get a win over there.”Neither team found the net in the first period, but the Jets struck 27 seconds into the second on a Corey Wojewodzic goal from Ryan MacDonald. The duo (Wojewodzic from MacDonald) struck again with 1:34 left in the period.Salem cut the lead to 2-1 36 seconds into the final period on a goal by Ishmael Telemaco (Dan Heck assist), but the Jets added a little buffer when Alex Amico scored with 3:34 left in the game. Tony Uva had the assist.The Jets (5-1-1) play Peabody on Saturday.Marblehead 6, Peabody 4At McVann-O?Keefe Rink, Tom Koopman had a hat trick for Marblehead with Matt Koopman, Erik Powers and Colin Daly supplying the other three goals. Peabody?s Reed Foster also had a hat trick with Mike Vadala accounting for the other goal.This one was a wild one, with Marblehead taking a 2-0 lead in the first and making it 3-0 in the second. Peabody scored twice in the last 1:30 of the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Marblehead got one back to make it 4-2. Peabody scored again to make it 4-3, only to see Marblehead go up 5-3 with 1:18 left. Peabody made it 5-4 before Marblehead put the game away with 27 seconds remaining. Peabody is 2-6.Revere 6, Swampscott 3At Salem State, Swampscott (1-6-1) had a strong performance from Mike Johnson (2 goals, assist). Ryan Donnelly scored the final goal for the Big Blue. Ryan Cresta and Louis Oliveri recorded an assist each for Swampscott.Beverly 2, Winthrop 0At Rockett Arena, the Panthers (9-0-1) scored both goals in the third period, one by Graham Doherty and the other by Ross Wahl. Tim Borelli was in net for the shutout.Triton 3, Saugus 0At Triton, the Sachems skated hard the entire way, but when they made mistakes, Triton was unforgiving. Saugus is 1-5.In other boys hockey action, Danvers defeated Gloucester 6-1 at Gloucester. St. John?s Prep and Xaverian tied 5-5.GIRLS HOCKEYWinthrop/Lynn 7, Matignon 0At Winthrop, Winthrop (6-1) started out a little slow, but took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Olivia Shkliew scored, assisted by Caroline McKinnon and Jessica Ford. Winthrop outscored Matignon 6-0 in the final two periods. Micayla Norris and Lynn native Catie O?Shea scored their first ever varsity goals for Winthrop. Ford had a strong performance overall (goal, assist). Freshman goalie Kayla Yarrow recorded her second career win and shutout for Winthrop (16 saves).SWIMMINGE. Boston 58, St. Mary?s 36At East Boston, the Spartans (1-2) got wins from Eve Smith in the 200 individual medley (2:26) and Sophia Gomes in the 500 free (7:20). Smith, Abby DiVirgilio, Hannah Walker and Erik Whitcomb combined to win the 200 free relay (2:00).Minuteman 89, Tech 77At Minuteman, the Tigers (1-2) had four firsts — Nick Weston in the 200 free (2:24.31) and the 500 free (6:50.23); James Martin, 100 back (2:20.22) and Jake Kennedy in the 100 free (1:08.13).WRESTLINGSt. John?s 69, BC High 9At BC High, St. John?s had 12 winners: Malcom Mitchell (106); Michael Dik (120); Hunter Costa (126); John Grady (132); Jack Anderson (138); Jared Costa (145); Fred Colberg (152); Ben DiNatale (160); Solomon White (170); Spencer Jenkins (182); Ian Butterbrodt (220) and Jay Carnevale (285). St. John?s is now 19-1.Lynnfield-N. Reading 51, Wakefield 26At Lynnfield, Lynnfield had nine winners: Joe Morse (106); Scott McGrath (120); Eric Kerr (126); Lucas Pascucci (132); Max Whyman (138); Dominic Monzione (145); Joey Wise (160); Max Robert (170) and Mike Farrell (285). Lynnfield is 13-0.
